tree in restaurant

I'm always taking picutres of this small Indian restaurant, as I think the tree is beautiful. The shop has been built around the tree. It is located opposite the Alice Smith school at Jalan Bellamy in KL.

There is a green plastic hoop attached to one of the branches (the one above the 'f' of fast car wash, 1st photo). Don't know how it got there, but it's been there a few years.

Runah Melaka

I often take a "short cut" home and drive through Jalan Bellamy from Jalan Bukit Petaling area, and on through the Kwong Tong cemetery. Bellamy is one of the last places in KL that still has old colonial bungalows and wonderful old trees. Most of the bungalows are occupied by government offices.

However it is worrying to see that a central area has been fenced off with a big green corrugated fence, which suggests some development is going to take place. And I guess they will cut down all the trees (see update below).

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has a centre here on Jln Bukit Petaling, and there are often lots of refugees hanging around outside.

The istana (palace) borders this area, so hopefully will offer some protection. There is a surau here, and opposite are the famous ikan bakar shops (grilled fish). These get very busy at lunchtime.

H.F.Bellamy was a civil engineer and director of the PWD in the 1880s. The fire and rescue services in Malaysia started in 1883 with the establishment of the Selangor state fire and rescue volunteers squad headed by H.F.Bellamy with 15 crews. The fire engine was drawn by a pair of horses. Bellamy was one of the original members of the Royal Selangor Club.

Sept 2010 update

After a long absence, I drove through Bellamy and saw that the green fence had gone, revealing what appears to be a new park. However there are no signs up yet, except the for "no dogs allowed". Strange how that is the only one, maybe it is more important than telling us what the park will be. Also it looks a bit uninviting, with a lot of concrete and very few trees and no nice garden.
