Bukit Bintang at night

Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur is always bustling, day and night. Even at midnight there are traffic jams. Last night, Oct 3 2009, was particularly busy, as Sungai Wang was holding a big Mid Autumn Festival, and one side of the road was closed off and set up with a stage.

And as usual the Malay youth were out in force. One band was doing a session outside Maybank, mostly drums and also didgeridoos, and next to them some young lads were doing break-dancing. Some were very good. Must be painful doing headstands on the concrete pavement.

The police were out in force, but they never seem to bother the street performers, or the crowds that gather.

The Actors Studio @ Lot 10

The new Actors Studio @ Lot 10 will open on Oct 10 2009. Having lost their old home in BSC in Feb this year, they have now moved into a brand new theatre on the roof top of Lot 10 (sponsored by Francis Yeoh).

Before the days of BSC, they were in the underground carpark at Dataran Merdeka (until they got flooded out). So they have moved from basement to rooftop!

Although not officially open, during the 2 weeks before the opening, they have been holding test performances. I went to one on Oct 3.

It was Contemporary Dance, coordinated by Bilqis Hijjas, performed by Ballet Base. Although this type of dance is not my thing, I was curious to see the theatre.

Flashlight photography was not allowed, so the photos are not too good.
