USA - autumn colours in the White Mountains

The best day of my holiday for autumn colours. From Conway in New Hampshire we drove along the scenic Kancamagus Highway which was a small road through the White Mountain park. The Kancamagus Highway is 34 miles long and is one of the best Fall Foliage viewing areas. The road goes through the White Mountain National Forest with views of the White Mountains, the Swift River, Sabbaday Falls, Lower Falls and Rocky Gorge. Our first stop was at Lower Falls -

Then on to Rocky Gorge

A short walk through the woods brought us to this lake with an incredible reflection -

Next was a brief stop at a view point at an elevation of just under 3,000 feet, the highest point of the Kancamagus Pass on the flank of Mt. Kancamagus near Lincoln.
 Mt. Kancamagus -

We left the scenic road at Loon, went through Lincoln and onto the highway. Stopped at a 'service station' -
Then crossed into Massachusetts and onto Boston.

USA - White Mountains, New Hampshire

From Littleton, we started to drive through the White Mountains. From Wikipedia The White Mountains are a mountain range covering about a quarter of the state of New Hampshire and a small portion of western Maine in the United States. They are part of the northern Appalachian Mountains and the most rugged mountains in New England.

We were there at the right time as the foliage was changing colours and the views were stunning.

Mount Washington is the highest peak in the Northeastern United States at 6,288 ft (1,917 m) . We went up to Marshfield base station, from where a cog railway goes up Mt Washington. From WikipediaThe Mount Washington Cog Railway is the world's first mountain-climbing cog railway (rack-and-pinion railway).

We were just in time to see 3 trains leave.

We continued on our way, stopping to take photos of the Mount Washington Resort -

The autumn colours got better as we continued our journey. We stopped at a waterfall although there wasn't much water -

We were in the Crawford Notch state park. Our next stop was at a lake by the Willey historic house.

That evening we stayed near North Conway.

USA - Littleton, New Hampshire

From Bath in New Hampshire, our next stop was Littleton for lunch. Littleton is at the edge of the White Mountains.

The river that flows through the town is the Ammonoosuc -

Littleton has a covered bridge and a water wheel -
