Parintins, Amazon, Brazil

Parintins is an Amazon River cruise port and city in Brazil's Amazonas state. It is on the south bank of the Amazon and on the boundary of the states of Amazonas and Para. Parintins is on
Tupinambarana island. Tupinambarana is a fluvial or river island, now split into 4 separate islands by natural channels. Parintins is at the northeast end of the original island.

From Nov till Jan the village becomes an island owing to high river levels. There are no roads to the town, but it has an airport.

It is best known for the "Boi Bumba" folklore festival held annually in June. The main reason we stopped in Parintins was for the Boi Bumba show, but I didn't go to it! I just wandered around the town for a short while but it wasn't very inspiring.

The most interesting thing for me were the walking vultures, strolling down the road like our pigeons or crows at home.

Petrol is 4.95 Real, £1 = 5.290 Real. I don't know if this is for an American gallon.
